Conspiracy Theory - Aaron Kennard (Investor, Entrepreneur, Author)
Aaron Kennard is a real estate investor, entrepreneur, and a man whose mission is to help millions of people change their life. He is the founder of Truly Amazing Life Inc. and the author of The Positive Thinking Secret. In his Paper Napkin Wisdom, Aaron shares the foundation principle by which he lives.
Aaron’s napkin reads: “Everything is conspiring for your benefit,” He says that this affirmation is the first thing that comes to his mind in the morning and it is something he has found to be transformational in the lives of the people he teaches.
Though Aaron believes he’s grown up with this belief, he’s found that this particular affirmation has become more clear and more pronounced in the last for years. There came a point for him, where this belief became a deep part of who he is and shifted everything in his life. Having faith that everything is conspiring for his benefit shifted his feelings of control and freedom, it became something that underlies every action he makes and changes his reaction to anything and everything.
We can often get sucked into victim mode, he says. Knowing that whatever happens is going to be for his benefit, changes his perception and prevents him from getting stuck dwelling on everything that’s bad. Instead, he works to change the course of his actions today and works to flip everything to the positive.
The power of this kind of thinking really struck Aaron a few years ago when he found himself suffering from a persistent sore throat. The condition lasted for a month and one night, when he felt annoyed and lethargic, he decided that to take his mind off the pain, he would start thinking of five things he was really thankful for every time he swallowed and felt the pain. He soon found himself feeling really joyful. His sore throat became like a built in alarm clock, acting as a constant reminder to express gratitude and feel joy. He felt incredibly empowered and free.
“Every one of my circumstances, I can find the advantage to it,” says Aaron. He consciously seeks out the ways he can use every experience around him and in doing so, he prevents himself from getting stuck in the negative. He focuses on what he’s going to do next, how he’s going to use his benefit. From a business standpoint, this way of thinking has helped him be resilient. It’s the inspiring thought that gets him to stand up again when he gets knocked down, and as entrepreneurs, we get knocked down a lot.
Aaron admits he still gets paralyzed or overwhelmed by the tasks in front of him sometimes, but that’s something he continues to work on. We don’t tend to default to the positive, says Aaron, quite often we’re defaulted to the negative view. To switch to living positive, he says, you should start with an affirming truth, daily. He says that there’s this misconception about affirmations.
People tend to assume that it’s about lying to yourself, but that’s not the idea. The idea behind an affirmation is to say it and believe it. If you feel resistance to the thing you’re saying, you have to work through that stuff; think about it and analyze it. Don’t just lie to yourself, get to the place where you believe it and then repeat it. In the same way that working through resistance builds muscle mass physically, working through doubt and negative thoughts, strengthens our resolve and makes us more resilient.
Previous Paper Napkin guests have spoken to the importance of positive thinking and affirmations. If you get stuck on the negative, you can’t move forward, but if you have faith that everything is going to benefit you somehow, you free yourself to move forward with confidence. Even the worst situation can teach you a lesson for the future. If you work through the negative, you make yourself stronger in the future. “Everything is conspiring for your benefit,” says Aaron, so what are you going to do to take advantage of that?
