Ever Notice?

How some things cause us to react way more potently than we should? Has there been a situation that has caused you to act less than you're capable? Or perhaps just plain overreact? Ever notice that it's sometimes the same thing?

Antihistamine? Anyone?

Leaders, There are some things that people do that almost literally have me breaking out in hives. I’ve got a great team and they insulate me from a lot of unaligned thinking. So when I hear someone go on about a challenge from a lack of perspective I break out.  Sometimes the reaction is way larger than the situation warrants. Do you know what I mean? Have you ever noticed when someone on your team (or someone else’s) makes a BIG customer service miss … you know the kind where the customer is sitting there with his/her jaw on the floor while your staff (or anyone really) proceeds to defend their lack of understanding to them? Or better yet, when you’re the customer and a customer service agent (say with just about any airline in the world) explains why your bag is still missing even though you’ve been wearing the same clothes for 3 days on what was supposed to be a simple DIRECT flight? While both these stories are unfortunate, neither warrant the reaction you’d be (and at least I’d be) likely to deliver to them.  Something just short of Mr T’s, “I pity the fool …” Remember that Perception is Projection, we see things as we are not as they are. Perhaps our reaction has more to do with us than our situation. Deep breaths ... don't react. Ask for the support you truly need to get through the reaction. Support your team to do the same.It can be that simple. Make it a great day,Govindh@WiseNapkin
