It Takes Intent
I have a group of people who come together as part of a Forum (or mastermind group) within the Entrepreneurs Organization and I can safely say that I would not have "fallen" into friendship with any of them if left to chance. Today, however, they are among my best and closest friends.
Community
Leaders, it takes a community to grow an entrepreneur. There are so many catch phrases out there in the world about ecosystems around entrepreneurs. All of them with the view that people who are to become entrepreneurs need support for a variety of reasons. Most of all we need it because we will doubt ourselves and quit when success is near. This sort of support, however, is not something you fall into. I have a wonderful group of non-entrepreneur friends and they are great. I feel blessed to have them in my life. My true friends, however, all push me to realize the vision I have for myself. They never suggest that I am not up to the task, they never suggest that success is far, and finally accept nothing less than my full authentic effort. I remember one of my Forum mates suggesting that our meetings were not a place to get comfortable and put on comfy slippers. It was supposed to be uncomfortable -because true growth is uncomfortable. True growth required me to face my demons and limiting beliefs on a daily basis as I challenged the limits of what I thought I could accomplish. John Spence, said it best when he said that we become what we focus on and like the people you spend time with. Get intentional about growing your circle of influence intentionally.
