Pursue the Moment- Christina Harbridge (MisChief Executive Officer of Allegory Inc.)

Christina Harbridge has an eclectic history. She’s been a NASA test subject, a swing dancer, artistic collaborator and positively impactful and disruptive entrepreneur. With such a varied set of experiences, it’s unsurprising that she has an interesting perspective. In addition to everything she’s done, Christina is an entrepreneur with a passion for helping others. She’s got a philosophy about human behavior that is the driving force behind both her company, Allegory Inc., and her everyday life. Christina’s philosophy is at the heart of her Paper Napkin Wisdom; “Watch for what you like.” It’s a shift in focus, one that not only makes us happier by focusing on the positives, but more successful too. This isn’t about wearing so-called ‘rose colored glasses’, it’s about being able to see the rose through the thorns. It means watching for the things you want to celebrate instead of focusing on the things you don’t like or things you’d like to change. We spend so much time in our own head, she says, that the world around us disappears and that disconnect has a variety of downsides to us both personally and professionally. In making the effort to get out of our own heads and actively watch for things to celebrate, Christina argues that we make ourselves more likely to be listened to and accelerate the confidence of the people around us. Watching for what we like is a deliberate practice, one we have to work at, but one with a lot of benefits. It makes us better speakers, better communicators, better leaders, better at giving feedback and more personable in general. That being said, Christina is quick to point out that it isn’t a way of manipulating outcomes. She says that if you’re employing this philosophy to get something material out of it, you’re doing it wrong and it won’t work. It’s an internal operational shift rather than a transactional one and it’s really a gift to give yourself.  She calls it a shift in our operating system. Christina’s message is an important one, not just because of the benefits that seem to stem from this life perspective as a byproduct, but because of the impact that this shift of focus gives you and those around you.
