Step Back to Move Forward AND Reconnect, Recollect, Renew Your Commitment DAILY - Jason Barger
Jason Barger is an author, speaker, and consultant who wants us to ReMember. We live in a distracting society, says Jason, we’re bombarded with as many as 3000 messages a day and it’s so easy to be distracted when all day long our eyes, attention, and focus are jumping around. “Where we look is where we go,” says Jason.
ReMembering is about actively making the proactive choice to reconnect to the memberships and relationships in our lives, to redirect our focus to the things we are committed to.
What are we committed to?
The commitments in our lives need to be thought about, says Jason. We become members of so many things that we often get ourselves entrenched in a sea of commitments, but you have to ask yourself: Are you truly engaged in each membership? Are you busy or are you being effective? In order to ReMember, says Jason, we have to Release baggage, Recast a new vision, and Respond with action. It’s about recommitting and renewing our commitment to the different memberships in our lives. There is a rhythm to maintaining this and Jason says that successful people and companies are the ones who intentionally ask themselves “What do we have to let go of? What’s the new vision? How do we respond to it with action?”
"When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." When the going gets tough in my own company, I know that I tend to bear down and push hard to get something done, but Jason suggests that taking that step back and refreshing is a far more effective way to move forward. He says: "When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." How might I change my direction and how I go that direction? Plodding through and pushing hard to get something done is easy, but it’s not effective unless you know where you’re headed and if you’re looking at the ground, that’s where you’ll go. Where we look is where we go. If I take a step back and refresh my vision of where it is I’m heading, what more might I get accomplished? If I ReMember with my team, what could that do for our group alignment? As we spoke about ReMembering, it was clear that Jason was fired up, and after this conversation I have to admit that I am too.
